Overview of the role
The FP&A Manager plays a pivotal role in delivering insightful financial analysis and planning to support strategic decision-making across the Group’s retail and wholesale operations. Reporting to the Head of FP&A, the role is responsible for producing high-quality internal reporting, forecasts, budgets, and long-term financial plans. The FP&A Manager will work closely with the Commercial Finance team, CFO, Financial Control teams, parent company’s group finance function and business owners across the business to ensure alignment on financial performance and strategic initiatives. The role also supports capital investment analysis, initiative tracking, and ad-hoc requests from the Board and parent company. A key aspect of the role is transforming financial data into actionable insights using BI platforms and financial modelling tools. The FP&A Manager will also collaborate with the shared service centre in Pakistan to ensure accurate and timely financial data processing.
The role is hybrid working with 3 days in the office, and 2 days working from home.
Main Responsibility
- Lead the preparation and delivery of monthly management reporting packs, including variance analysis and commentary for senior stakeholders.
- Own the budgeting and forecasting cycles for the Group, ensuring alignment across business units and timely submission to the parent company.
- Develop and maintain long-term financial models to support strategic planning and scenario analysis.
- Partner with the Commercial Finance team to evaluate business performance, track initiatives, and support commercial decision-making.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations for capital investment proposals, including ROI and payback assessments.
- Respond to ad-hoc financial information requests from the Board and parent company, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
- Collaborate with the shared service centre in Pakistan to ensure data integrity and timely processing of financial transactions.
- Influence budget outcomes indirectly through financial planning and performance analysis, supporting budget holders with insights and recommendations.
- Drive improvements in reporting and analytics through the use of Anaplan, OLAP structures, and BI platforms.
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders (CFO, Financial Control, Commercial Finance) and external stakeholders (parent company finance team), acting as a trusted advisor
Key knowledge and skills required:
- Qualifications: ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in FP&A or similar roles within large, complex organisations; experience in retail or wholesale sectors preferred.
- Leadership: Experience managing or mentoring junior analysts or cross-functional teams is beneficial.
- Skills:
- Financial Modelling: Advanced Excel and modelling skills.
- Data Analysis: Strong analytical skills with experience in BI tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau).
- Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with Anaplan, OLAP structures, and ERP systems.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present to senior stakeholders.
- Influencing & Negotiation: Ability to influence budget holders and senior leaders through data-driven insights.
- Organisation: Strong project management and time management skills.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to link financial analysis to broader business strategy.
Problem Solving & Change:
- The role requires solving complex financial problems, often in ambiguous situations where fixed policies may not exist. Decisions must be made using sound judgement and financial acumen.
- Forward planning is essential, particularly in budgeting, forecasting, and strategic modelling, which may span months or years.
- The FP&A Manager has a significant impact on the organisation’s financial future through strategic analysis and investment recommendations.
- Work tasks are a mix of short-term deliverables (e.g. monthly reporting) and long-term projects (e.g. financial planning models, investment appraisals).
