Overview of the role

Role Overview:

The Head of Business Development / Commercial / B2B is a senior leadership role responsible for identifying, driving, and executing strategic business development initiatives across multiple sectors, including Prisons, Care Homes, Outpatient Dispensing, and new private services. The role will focus on leveraging the scale and central capabilities of the organization to maximize growth opportunities and create innovative B2B and B2C service propositions.

Reporting directly to Chief Retail Officer this role will shape the strategic direction for business development, focusing on expanding our presence in key and new markets, developing new service offerings, and building long-term commercial relationships with strategic partners.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Business Development

  • Lead the identification, assessment, and pursuit of new business opportunities across targeted sectors such as Prisons, Care Homes, Outpatient Dispensing, and other B2B services.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy that capitalizes on the company’s scale and central capabilities to drive growth and expand our commercial footprint.
  • Leverage existing relationships and networks to create and secure new partnerships and opportunities for business expansion in the B2B sector.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., operations, marketing, legal) to ensure alignment with the company's broader strategic objectives.

2. Market Research and Opportunity Identification

  • Conduct comprehensive market research and competitor analysis to identify emerging trends, and opportunities, in the sectors we serve.
  • Stay informed of industry developments, new regulatory changes, and shifts in market dynamics to anticipate opportunities for service offerings, ensuring we stay ahead of the curve.
  • Develop a deep understanding of customer needs across target markets to identify new business models and service offerings.

3. Service Propositions and New Private Services

  • Identify, define, and develop innovative service propositions for both existing and new markets, including potential private service offerings.
  • Explore and evaluate opportunities for creating new private services that align with the organization’s growth strategy.
  • Work with the wider operations teams to design and launch new services and ensure they meet customer needs while leveraging the company’s core capabilities.

4. Partnership Development and Management

  • Build and nurture long-term relationships with key clients, potential partners, and stakeholders to ensure successful collaboration and growth.
  • Manage the negotiation and development of commercial partnerships, joint ventures, and strategic alliances that enhance the company’s offerings in targeted sectors.
  • Lead discussions with key stakeholders (private sector organizations, government agencies, healthcare providers, etc.) to secure long-term contracts and business opportunities.

5. Performance Tracking and Reporting

  • Set and monitor clear business development KPIs to measure success, identify areas for improvement, and ensure business development objectives are met.
  • Prepare and present regular progress reports to senior management, providing updates on market developments, new business acquisitions, and ongoing projects.
  • Assess and track the success of business development initiatives and adjust strategies as needed to maximize impact.

6. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with other senior leaders in the company to ensure that business development initiatives are aligned with overall corporate strategy and goals.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration between departments (sales, marketing, finance, legal, operations, wholesale) to ensure smooth execution of business development strategies.
  • Lead and mentor a team to ensure the execution of business development plans and maintain focus on performance targets.

Key Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Business, Marketing, Healthcare, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of success in business development, particularly in the B2B sector, and experience managing high-value partnerships or sales.
  • Extensive experience in the healthcare, care homes, or relevant industries (e.g., Prisons, outpatient services, private healthcare services).

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and commercial acumen.
  • Ability to think strategically and drive growth through market insights, product innovation, and partnership development.
  • Exceptional understanding of business development processes, including market research, opportunity assessment, and partnership negotiations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex situations and develop actionable plans.
  • Experience working within a highly regulated environment (e.g., healthcare, prisons) would be beneficial.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines effectively.
