Overview of the role
We're hiring a junior data engineer at Bestway Healthcare!
This is an early-career opportunity to build practical data engineering experience within a supportive team. You will help develop and maintain the data pipelines and structures that make trusted information available across Bestway Healthcare.
You do not need extensive previous experience. You will work alongside experienced engineers, receive coaching and feedback, and take on greater responsibility as your technical confidence and understanding grow.
The team is building a modern Microsoft Fabric platform and improving how data is ingested, transformed, tested and delivered. This role offers room to learn those practices through real work while contributing useful solutions from the outset.
Main Responsibility
The Junior Data Engineer supports the design, build, testing and maintenance of reliable data pipelines and data products under the guidance of experienced team members.
The role will help move data from source systems into Microsoft Fabric, transform it into usable information, apply agreed quality checks, document solutions and support the day-to-day reliability of the platform. It is designed for someone with a relevant data engineering education who is ready to develop through structured support and hands-on experience.
- Support the build and maintenance of data pipelines within Microsoft Fabric under the guidance of experienced engineers
- Use SQL and, as capability develops, Python or PySpark to extract, transform and prepare data
- Help ingest internal and third-party data from databases, APIs and files using established patterns
- Complete data quality checks, investigate straightforward issues and escalate complex problems promptly
- Monitor scheduled data processes, respond to alerts and support the resolution of pipeline failures
- Write clear documentation and keep technical records, requirements and work items up to date
- Follow team standards for source control, code review, testing, deployment, security and data governance
- Work with analysts and business colleagues to understand data requirements and deliver appropriate solutions
- Take part in training, peer reviews and team learning, building towards greater ownership of engineering tasks
The Ideal Candidate
- Relevant education is essential, a degree, apprenticeship, HND, bootcamp or equivalent qualification with a clear focus on data engineering, computer science, software engineering, data science or a closely related technical subject
- Foundation knowledge of SQL and an understanding of tables, joins, data types and basic data transformation
- Some exposure to programming using Python, PySpark or another relevant language through education, personal projects, placements or employment
- Basic understanding of data pipelines including how data is collected, transformed, tested and made available for reporting or analysis
- Interest in cloud data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric or Azure; prior commercial experience is not required
- Attention to detail with an appreciation of data quality, testing, documentation and following agreed standards
- Strong learning mindset with the confidence to ask questions, act on feedback and steadily develop new technical skills
