Trading Manager – Private Services

Overview of the role

The Trading Manager – Private Services is responsible for driving the commercial performance of the Private Services portfolio, ensuring delivery of revenue, margin, retention and participation targets across all services (excluding WMS in-store and online).

 

This role translates business strategy into clear trading priorities, optimises performance through 

data-led decision making and works cross-functionally to grow service uptake and profitability. 

 

The Trading Manager acts as the central point of accountability for Private Services performance, representing outcomes at senior forums and ensuring continuous improvement across the end-to-end customer journey.

 

Primary Accountabilities / Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver revenue, margin, retention and participation targets for all Private Services
  • Drive uptake and participation of services through targeted trading plans and performance interventions
  • Translate business strategy into clear, actionable priorities for services trading and operations
  • Devise and execute service-specific strategies focused on core growth pillars (e.g., acquisition, conversion, repeat usage, pricing, availability)
  • Challenge performance across services, identifying risks and opportunities and taking corrective action at pace
  • Monitor customer trends, market dynamics and competitor activity, adapting plans quickly to maximise growth
  • Act as the escalation point for trading and performance issues, ensuring timely resolution
  • Partner with proposition, operations, marketing, supply chain and risk teams to improve end-to-end performance
  • Work with external and internal partners to drive service growth and unlock new opportunities
  • Ensure alignment between trading plans, marketing activity and operational delivery to maximise outcomes
  • Represent Private Services performance at senior forums (e.g., Trade meetings, SteerCo), providing clear insight, recommendations and actions
  • Use data and insight to track KPIs such as uptake, conversion, repeat usage, margin and customer retention
  • Drive continuous improvement through test-and-learn approaches and performance optimisation initiatives

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Commercial & Trading Expertise

  • Strong commercial acumen with experience owning revenue and margin performance
  • Proven ability to develop and execute trading strategies that deliver measurable growth
  • Experience managing KPIs and using data to drive performance improvements

Performance & Insight

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data and translate into clear actions
  • Strong understanding of customer behaviours, trends and market dynamics
  • Track record of identifying opportunities and acting at pace to deliver results

Stakeholder Management & Collaboration

  • Experience working cross-functionally across commercial, operations, marketing, supply chain and risk
  • Ability to influence and challenge stakeholders constructively to drive better outcomes
  • Strong communication skills with experience presenting at senior forums

 

Delivery & Execution

  • Ability to translate strategy into clear priorities and executable plans
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple services and priorities simultaneously
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment with ambiguity

 

Problem Solving & Leadership

  • Proactively identifies performance issues and uses insight to develop practical, impactful solutions
  • Challenges existing ways of working to drive efficiency, growth and improved customer outcomes
  • Adapts quickly to new information, adjusting trading plans while maintaining momentum
  • Provides clear direction and focus, ensuring alignment across functions and partners
  • Acts decisively as an escalation point, resolving issues and removing barriers to performance
