Overview of the role
Manage, control, and analyse all stock to ensure branch stock, leakage and wastage is correctly reported in the system and ledger. You will ensure that financial and accounting information, including product and pricing information is produced in an accurate and timely manner in order to allow store margin to be calculated.
Main Responsibility
- Operate and maintain all systems of gross margin calculation and stock recording within retail branches. Ensure retail stock reported in the balance sheet is accurately recorded and valued. Resolve and correct any anomalies where appropriate.
- Review and analyse significant stock leakage and wastage following stock takes and provide analysis / reports of variances, working with operations and stock takers to drive leakage and wastage down and improve accuracy
- Maintain monthly provisions for both retail and wholesale stock, working closely with exec members to mitigate future risks
- Provide reporting of key stock levels and margin to both branch and operations staff
- Produce monthly stock reports for senior management
- Oversee the relationship with stock takers to ensure stocktakes are correctly timetabled, resourced and communicated to retail ops
- Ensure the OPD and prisons margins along with specific project margins are accurate at branch level and produce relevant reports for operations and commercial
- Review stock postings for various services.
- Ensure that all product and pricing information is accurately maintained in all systems (FP34, InPrice, Stock file price file) covering retail estate and prisons.
- Work with offshore team to ensure monthly general ledger journals are posted correctly.
- Ensure offshore team complete balance sheet reconciliations in an accurate and timely manner.
- Dealing with external auditors at 2 audit visits per year including responding promptly to queries.
- Any other ad hoc tasks or team cover that may be required by management from time to time.
Problem solving & change:
- Understanding the need for accuracy in the accounts and judgement required in journal preparation
- Understanding the reporting deadlines and need for efficient time planning
- Able to make decisions regarding exception reporting to management
Key knowledge and skills required for the role:
- Previous finance experience essential, experience of stock and margin desirable
- Part Qualified accountant (CIMA / ACCA / ACA)
- Advanced user of Microsoft Excel.
