Lead Driver

Overview of the role

To lead the drivers who are allocated to your management. To be responsible for the full driver colleague cycle from recruitment, onboarding/induction and day to day management with a strong focus on safety and coordination of deliveries to ensure deliveries are made in line with customer SLAs.

Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday, (Saturdays working on a rotational shift pattern)

Please note that due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check before employment can commence. This includes both spent and unspent convictions, as well as information held by local police deemed as relevant to the role. Employment is conditional on satisfactory DBS clearance.

Main Responsibility

  • To work with the resourcing team to recruit drivers to ensure that headcount is maintained.
  • Training new drivers on Company policy and procedures and safety protocols (including arranging driver buddies and GDP training)
  • Ensuring that the driver load and unload in a proper and safe manner
  • Ensuring that drivers are familiar with all of their routes and schedules.
  • Responsible for route scheduling and that driver cover is at a maximum. Problem solving to cover routes that are without a driver.
  • Managing driver time and attendance and following up with any regular occurrences of lateness or absence, working with the employee relations team to take the relevant action.
  • Carrying out return to work interview upon drivers return to work following periods of absence.
  • Communicating with the Fleet team regarding any accident or incident reporting, completing all necessary paperwork/forms.
  • Dealing with responses to speeding fine and completing paperwork to advise of who was driving at the time of the offence.
  • Ensuring that congestion charges for relevant routes are paid in advance to avoid fines. Dealing and responding to fines, if they do occur
  • Responding police request for who was driver at the time of an accident.
  • Dealing with Samsara issues and ensuring informal action is taken for behaviour which breaches company policy or expectations. Raising this with the employee relations team to take formal action where necessary and relevant.
  • Supporting the Health and Safety and Fleet teams with any vehicle ad driver H&S activity/compliance.
  • EPOD Compliance (Snap)
  • POD and Customer Service investigations
  • Duties will also still include driver duties as and when necessary.

Knowledge skills & experience:

  • Full and valid UK driving licence
  • Strong team management skills
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Must pass full DBS check
