Overview of the role
Key Pharmaceuticals, a backwardly integrated arm of Bestway Healthcare, is seeking an experienced Responsible Person (RP) / Responsible Person for Import (RPi) to join our Quality Assurance team.
This is a critical role providing independent quality oversight across our pharmaceutical supply chain, ensuring compliance with Wholesale Distribution Authorisation (WDA(H)) requirements, Good Distribution Practice (GDP) standards and applicable import activities. You will play a key role in protecting product quality, patient safety and regulatory compliance while supporting the continued growth of our generics portfolio and European commercial operations.
This is a hybrid role with the opportunity to work remotely 1-2 times a week - reporting to our Redditch office.
Main Responsibility
- Act as the named RP and, where appointed, RPi on the company WDA(H), maintaining the competence, authority, availability and independence required by the licence.
- Maintain and continuously improve the pharmaceutical Quality Management System (QMS) for wholesale distribution and import activities.
- Ensure GDP procedures, records and controls are compliant, effective and inspection-ready.
- Review and approve deviations, CAPAs, change controls and quality risk assessments.
- Oversee supplier, customer and service provider qualification processes.
- Manage GDP audits, self-inspections and follow-up actions.
- Provide oversight of storage, transportation and outsourced logistics activities.
- Lead investigations relating to complaints, returns, recalls and suspected falsified medicines.
- Coordinate product recalls and maintain regulatory readiness.
- Ensure compliance with RPi verification requirements and import controls.
- Support MHRA inspections, customer audits and regulatory interactions.
- Provide expert GDP guidance across the business and make independent quality decisions to protect patient safety and compliance.
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience working as, or eligible to act as an RP and RPi and able to demonstrate the qualifications, knowledge and experience required for formal appointment.
- Significant pharmaceutical Quality Assurance experience within GDP and wholesale distribution environments.
- Strong knowledge of UK pharmaceutical legislation, GDP requirements, WDA(H) compliance and MHRA expectations.
- Proven experience managing quality systems, including deviations, CAPAs, change control, risk management, complaints, recalls and supplier qualification.
- Experience overseeing temperature-controlled distribution, transportation activities and third-party logistics providers.
- Ability to make independent, risk-based quality decisions and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent communication, organisation and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic quality management systems.
- Degree (or equivalent) in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Biology or a related life science discipline.
